Attendance Matters

The Importance of Attendance and Punctuality for the 2026–2027 School Year

As we prepare for the 2026–2027 school year, Orrville City Schools wants to remind students and families that one of the most important factors in student success is also one of the simplest: being at school every day and arriving on time.

Every school day provides students with new lessons, meaningful conversations, opportunities to ask questions, and time to develop important academic and life skills. When students miss school or arrive late, they may miss instruction and classroom experiences that can be difficult to recreate.

More Learning

Every day in the classroom is an opportunity to learn something new, strengthen essential skills, and build upon previous lessons. Regular attendance helps students remain connected to classroom instruction and prevents learning gaps from developing.

Stronger Connections

School is about more than academics. Attending regularly helps students build friendships, develop positive relationships with teachers and staff, and feel connected to their school community.

Students who feel connected and supported are more likely to participate, ask for help, and become actively involved in their learning.

Brighter Futures

Consistent attendance supports stronger academic achievement, successful course completion, and graduation. The habits students build today—including responsibility, reliability, and perseverance—will also benefit them in college, careers, and life.

Being On Time Matters

Arriving on time helps students begin the school day feeling calm, prepared, and ready to learn. Even a few minutes of missed instruction each day can add up over the course of a school year.

Families can help students arrive on time by preparing clothing, backpacks, assignments, and other needed materials the evening before. Establishing consistent bedtime and morning routines can also help students begin each day successfully.

We understand that students may occasionally need to miss school because of illness, appointments, emergencies, or other circumstances. When an absence is necessary, families should communicate with the school and help students complete any missed assignments.

Attendance is a partnership among students, families, teachers, and schools. By working together, we can help every student remain connected, engaged, and prepared for success.

Be here. Be on time. Be ready for your future.

Together, we can make every day count during the 2026–2027 school year.
