Overview

At Orrville School District, we are committed to providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for our students. Our transportation team covers 25 square miles and ensures that over 700 students arrive at school and return home safely each day. Our fleet of buses travels approximately 500 miles daily, totaling nearly 91,000 miles each school year on regular routes, plus an additional 25,000 miles for athletics and extracurricular events.

Student safety is our top priority. Our highly trained drivers follow strict safety protocols, undergo regular training, and maintain our buses to the highest standards. We work closely with families, staff, and the community to provide smooth, dependable transportation that supports student success.

Ridership & Route Updates

To ensure efficient routing and availability for all students, we kindly ask families to notify us if their child will not be riding the bus for an extended period. If a student does not ride the bus for two weeks and we have not heard from the family, they may be removed from the route. However, families can always reach out to request transportation again if needed.

Transportation Updates & Requests

Change of Student Address

If your student’s address changes, please update the information in FinalForms as soon as possible. Once updated, Transportation Services will adjust your student’s bus route accordingly.

Alternate Bus Stop Requests

For safety and consistency, students must be picked up and dropped off at the same location Monday through Friday. While the morning and afternoon locations may be different, they must remain consistent throughout the semester.

For example, a student may be picked up from home each morning and dropped off at a different location each afternoon. However, students may not ride home with a friend or get off at a different stop without prior approval.

You can submit a request if your student needs to be picked up or dropped off at a location other than your home address. We frequently approve requests for drop-offs at the YMCA.

To request a change, please complete the Alternate Bus Stop Request Form and email it to our Transportation Supervisor, Matt Wyatt, at orvl_mwyatt@tccsa.net.

Map

  • Follow the designated traffic flow as indicated on the map to ensure a smooth and safe drop-off and pick-up process.

  • Allow buses to pass through the elementary school driveway off Olive Street without obstruction.

  • Expect heavy traffic during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times. Please plan accordingly and be patient.

  • Drive slowly and stay alert. Many students walk through the neighborhoods and around the school before and after school hours.

Bus Safety

School Bus Safety: What Drivers Need to Know

It is essential to focus on keeping our children safe as they travel to and from school. According to the American School Bus Council, students are 70 times more likely to arrive at school safely when they take the bus rather than a car. This is due to the bus's design, built-in safety features, and traffic laws that protect students. However, the greatest danger to children isn't riding the bus—it’s when they are walking to or from it.

Traffic laws are in place to ensure student safety, and it’s every driver’s responsibility to follow them.

Understanding Ohio’s School Bus Laws

Ohio Revised Code Section 4511.75 requires drivers traveling in either direction to stop at least 10 feet away from a school bus that is picking up or dropping off students, whether or not the bus’s stop sign is extended or lights are flashing.

  • If the road has three or fewer lanes (not including a center turn lane), all drivers must stop.

  • If the road has four or more lanes, only vehicles traveling in the same direction as the bus are required to stop.

Ignoring these laws puts children at risk and carries serious consequences. Drivers caught violating school bus stop laws may be required to appear in court, face fines up to $500, and even risk a driver’s license suspension of up to one year.

Do Your Part to Keep Kids Safe

Please take a moment to review these rules with everyone in your household who drives. Following these laws helps ensure our students have a safe journey to and from school every day.
