Day of Caring

Day of Caring 2

May 12, 2025 | Orrville, OH – Orrville High School seniors made a lasting impact on their community last week during the annual United Way Day of Caring, joining more than 400 volunteers in a morning of service across Orrville and surrounding areas.

Seventy members of the Class of 2025 participated in the May 7 event, partnering with local businesses and organizations to complete improvement projects at key community sites. From spreading mulch to restoring historic landmarks, students demonstrated the values of service, teamwork, and civic pride.

“This is a great opportunity for students to give back in a meaningful way just weeks before graduation,” said Orrville High School's Principal, Mr. Brenner, “and it’s also a chance for them to build relationships within the community that has supported them throughout their education.”

Site Highlights:

  • City of Orrville: Seven students worked alongside employees from The J.M. Smucker Company at Rehm Pavilion, Schmid Hall, and Crown Hill Cemetery to beautify public spaces and honor community history.

  • Orrville Area Boys and Girls Club: Fifteen seniors joined Smith Dairy employees to support one of the district’s most valued youth partners.

  • Orrville Historical Society (Smith Orr Homestead): Eighteen students teamed up with Will-Burt staff to help preserve and prepare this cherished landmark for the summer season.

  • Orrville YMCA: Ten seniors collaborated with Aultman Orrville Hospital employees on projects supporting wellness and recreation.

  • Habitat for Humanity Sites: Students were flexible and ready to jump into service as plans shifted, stepping in where needed to support the mission of providing housing for families.

  • Orrville Middle School: ProVia, a new community partner, helped clean and enhance the middle school courtyards, making a strong first impression and showing their commitment to Orrville students.

  • Orrville Elementary School: Teams from Smuckers and Westfield Insurance spread 50 yards of mulch to refresh and improve the elementary playground.

The Day of Caring is organized annually by the Orrville Area United Way and the Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce. This year marked a record-breaking turnout, with more volunteers and completed projects than ever before.

The district extends its heartfelt thanks to the community organizations, companies, and volunteers who made this day possible—and especially to our seniors for their hard work and leadership as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives.
