This past weekend, Orrville High School’s Student Council showed what it means to give back to the community. Members purchased and decorated 500 brown paper bags with colorful, creative designs, each carrying a special note inviting residents to participate in the school’s first-ever community-wide canned food drive.
On Saturday morning, Student Council members spread out across Orrville, leaving the decorated bags on neighborhood porches. Then, on Sunday afternoon, they returned to collect donations, and what they found was truly heartwarming.
By the end of the day, generous Orrville residents had collected 1,454 cans of food. The overwhelming response pleasantly surprised and deeply moved the Council. The impressive total far exceeded expectations for the Council’s first attempt at this type of outreach, thanks to the community's incredible support.
“We are so thrilled with the outcome, the community, and our student council members for putting in the time and effort for the drive,” said organizers. “It’s a true reflection of Red Rider Pride in action.”
The Orrville High School Student Council would also like to share a special message with the community:
“The Orrville High School Student Council wants to give a HUGE thank you to all of the community members who left food donations out on their doorsteps for the canned food drive this weekend. We didn’t get to make it out to every neighborhood, but the outcome was excellent nonetheless. One thousand four hundred fifty-four cans were donated this weekend. We couldn’t do it without Orrville’s amazing community! THANK YOU!
Donations are still being accepted until December 19th. We encourage anyone interested to donate money or canned goods to the high school. Your ongoing support is crucial to our cause, and we appreciate every single donation.
Thank you, Orrville community, for continuing to show that together, we make a difference. ❤️🖤
