On February 19, 2026, Orrville City Schools held its District Wellness Committee meeting to review current wellness efforts and identify priorities that strengthen support for students and staff. The committee’s work helps ensure wellness programming is active, coordinated, and continuously improving across the district.
The meeting focused on how wellness is supported throughout the school day and across grade levels through a combination of nutrition, physical activity, health education, mental health supports, and a healthy school environment. Participants reviewed current initiatives, discussed data and trends, and shared ideas to guide future planning.
Highlights from the Meeting
Supporting student engagement and a positive school climate
The committee discussed the importance of consistent expectations for students and continued emphasis on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). These efforts help students build skills, strengthen relationships, and remain connected to learning.
Attendance and student engagement supports
Building teams reviewed current attendance supports, including early outreach to families, intervention planning for students who begin to struggle with attendance, and coordination with community partners when additional support is needed. The group also discussed the value of improving systems that strengthen communication and follow-through.
Mental health resources and student supports
The district reviewed its tiered approach to mental health, including crisis response procedures, school-based counseling partnerships, mentoring supports, and caring-adult check-ins. The committee emphasized reducing stigma and ensuring students know how to access help when they need it.
Nutrition updates and healthy choices
Food service leaders shared updates related to federal school nutrition standards, including continued efforts to reduce added sugar and sodium in school meals over time. The committee also discussed how healthier vending and a la carte options support student wellness throughout the day.
Physical education and health education
Staff reviewed upcoming updates to physical education standards that emphasize physical literacy, health-related fitness, and student understanding of how and why movement matters. The committee also discussed water safety education and opportunities to build partnerships that support student learning and safety.
Priorities Moving Forward
As the district continues to strengthen wellness programming, the committee identified several themes for future focus:
Expanding family engagement opportunities connected to wellness
Improving communication and visibility of wellness programs and supports
Strengthening partnerships with community organizations to support students and families
Continuing efforts that promote healthy meals, activity, and well-being across grade levels
The district also plans to develop a dedicated wellness webpage to serve as a central hub for resources, programs, and updates for families and the community.
Orrville City Schools appreciates the collaboration and commitment of staff, families, and community partners who support the well-being of our students. Wellness is a shared responsibility, and the district remains committed to creating supportive environments where every student can learn, grow, and thrive.
