Small Town Schools

Why this matters to Orrville Schools and our community

Over the past few months, I have shared information about changes in school funding in Ohio. I know this can be a hard topic to follow, so I want to explain it as clearly as I can.

The state changed some of the rules for how public schools receive money. These changes are expected to affect more than 200 school districts in Ohio over the next few years. State information also shows that 93% of rural and small-town school districts are in the group most likely to feel the impact. That is one reason the issue matters so much to communities like Orrville.

In simple terms, the situation means some school districts may not see funding grow as it once did, even as the cost of running schools continues to rise. Schools still have to pay for teachers, buses, utilities, classroom supplies, building needs, safety, and student support.

This does not mean schools suddenly lose all of their funding. But it does mean districts may have to plan more carefully because future funding may be harder to count on. That is why I believe it is important to keep our community informed in a clear and honest way.

That matters here in Orrville because our schools are an important part of our community. Strong schools support students, families, and the future of our town.

Please know that our focus remains the same. We will continue to make thoughtful decisions, plan responsibly, and keep students, staff, and the strength of our schools at the center of everything we do.

Thank you for taking the time to stay informed and for continuing to support Orrville City Schools.
